I have the Standard program. ON 479-A is not available but calculating and forwarding the incorrect amount to ON 479 line 63050.

The program is calculating the Family Adjusted Income with adding the spouses net income, therefore, it is too high and incorrect. I cannot overide line 63050 and there is no access to form ON 479-A

The ON479-A is called ONCARE in TurboTax Desktop Forms mode.

Thank you for clarifying the name of the form.  I suggest Turbotax name the form ON479-A in future or cross reference the search results for ON479-A in Forms Lookup to ONCARE.  I have this issue every year and it's easy to forget to fill out the form since it's difficult to find.  The default calculation only includes the person's income with the lower net income for calculation purposes and not family income.  I suggest that if the couple is doing the return together and showing as married that the default be the total of the person taking the child care expenses deduction plus the spouse's net income (total family net income necessary for calculation purposes).

Richard B2,  Thank you for you input.

In TurboTax desktop 2024, in Forms Lookup to ONCARE will be renamed to ON479-A.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

I just realized that form ONCARE is not calculating properly.  Why would it not work when you are doing the taxes as a couple.  The information is there and it should work.  How do you overwrite the amount.  This is a big problem and you should fix it.  People rely on this software when doing their taxes and it should not be calculating the wrong amount.

Thank you

@paulalynn You cannot override the amount it should be automatically calculating it.  ONCARE form is updated by CRA last week and there was an update for TurboTax Desktop on Thursday, make sure your software is up to date. If you still facing the same issue please contact Product Support so they can screenshare and investigate it if required.

This form was not calculated properly on my 2021, 2022 and 2023 taxes.  I opened TurboTax and the only one that had an update was the 2023 edition but the form still did not calculate properly.  What year are you referring to for the CRA update?

I don't understand why the form would not calculate properly and provide me with a refund I was not entitled to.

Thank you.

I have exactly the same issue and now have been reassessed for $18,000 including $3000 of interest by CRA because of this error by Turbo Tax.

The real kicker is that on Page 1 of the return the spouses income is auto filled so why isn't also filled in the ONCARE form!!

@Rudi A We suggest you to contact our product support team by phone.

They have access to tools we don't have here in Community, like screenshare, and see the issues to escalate into an investigation if needed.

I did that … not very useful !! All I got was a couple of links to documents but no way to actually submit a claim . Had to call in a second time and finally was directed to the physical address, buried way down in the Eula, where you have to mail your claim request with now way of contacting them to find out the status!

this is unacceptable customer service!!

Hello Rudi,

What do you mean by mailing your claim request?  When I contacted them they said they were not responsible for how I entered the data and gave me links to the forms which were not helpful. I had used the standard package and did not pay for live assistance.

Thank you for your help.

Hi PaulaLynn;

When I called the support line after receiving to notice of reassessment for my daughter I was given the impression tht there was a know problem and hey provided me with a mailing address to submit a claim for the interest charges from CRA

Intuit Canada,

Attention: TurboTax Returns Dept.,

8 Spadina Avenue - Suite 1900

 Toronto, On  M5V 0S8

I sent them copies of the assessments and screenshots of form ON479-A/ONCARE where I thought the error occurred.

I have heard nothing from them since they received the documents on Feb 6.

After looking into this more it appears there is a way to make the form work with the check boxes at the beginning but the program never takes you to that page .

In my mind there are a number of logic/programming errors

a) in my case the returns are coupled so the spousal info should automatically be fillied in ... it is not

b) when I entered the childcre expense info I did not enter it under the lower income spouse but the system did transfer it to the ON479-A form under the correct spouse so why can it do that but not also bring in the other spouses income

c) it processed the CARE benefit with none of the required boxes checked ... this should not happen ... if none of the boxes are checked there should be a warning or the return should have been processed as if there was no CARE benefit.

d) during the review process the where it highlights things like missing province on your T4 info etc it should also have pointed to the ON479-A form indicating that none of the boxes where checked.... it does not

Thanks Rudi.  I had figured out about the check boxes afterwards too.   You are right, there should have been a warning about it.

What version of the software did you use and did you pay for the live assistant?  I used the standard desktop version and did not pay for the live assistant.

Thanks

I used the standard desktop version as well.

I did notice that the 2024 version now has an item in the warnings section about making sure all the correct boxes are checked if you are claiming the ON CARE benefit. This warning is definitely not in the previous years return software.

So when can I expect a refund from TurboTax for the interest assessed by CRA resulting from a clear oversight in the program?

If you have sent your documents to the Toronto office, you should be receiving an email shortly. The email will be coming from AccuracyGuarantee.

I sent the documents via registered mail and they were delivered on Feb 6 to the address on Spadina Ave and I have not received any communication yet

If you are using the TurboTax Desktop version - forms mode-—please see the screenshots below:

If you are doing a joint return and you are a couple living in the same household, this is how you would input it so that it recognizes both of your incomes.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

Thanks again!
I figured all that out after reading some other posts so the 2024 filing is correct. Unfortunately for 2021, 2022 and 2023 it was not obvious that these check boxes needed to be filled in for the filing to be correct and unlike the 2024 package there was no indication that the boxes were not completed during the review process
