My deductions include Other which I did not enter. How do I delete these?

Would these have come from previously entered information?

Line 23200 – Other deductions are not deducted anywhere else on your return. This line can include:

  • Federal, provincial and territorial COVID-19 benefit repayments made in 2023
  • Canada Pension Plan or Quebec Pension Plan benefits
  • scholarships, bursaries or research grants
  • retiring allowances
  • repayment of a shareholder's loan
  • repayments made by you in the year for a policy loan under a life insurance policy
  • income from a registered disability savings plan

I'm still not comfortable with this deduction (Northern residents/additional ded.).  I did not enter any deductions, and there has never been an entry in this field before.  My tax situation has not changed much in the past few years.  Can I find out why I have this deduction, where it came from?

I would love to know if a resolution to this was ever found.   Neither Intuit TurboTax nor CRA seem to be able to answer this same quesiton for me.   Clearly there is a formula in the coding of this program that someone knows.  Going back to paper and pen next year ...

Yes, thanks, I have read the guidance on the CRA website.   What I need to know is the coding behind Intuit's programming that automatically calculates and populates this field without any input whatsoever by the end-user

@lahalahalhahhh Every amount that TurboTax generates is based off of what's entered on the tax return, unless the number is something specified from the CRA (ex: in a formula). There are 3 ways that information can be entered into a return: Direct entry from the user, CRA Auto-Fill or transfer of info from the previous year's return. So, yes, it's possible for TurboTax to calculate something based on something that you didn't manually enter, but it would still be using information that you allowed the program to import.

Exactly, Susan!  So since I didn’t directly enter the figure … and the exact same figure does not appear on a previous years’ return … how do I find out what the autofill formula

is that is producing that figure?  It’s clearly coming from the formula CRA had Intuit enter into the source code of the program and is then drawing figures directly from

CRA data tables by API.   How do I get that what CRA data is being drawn and what the exact formula is?

@lahalahalhahhh There is no one formula for Line 23200 - it's just a total of all the deductions that don't have any other specific place to go to are put. If you look at the Other Deductions page, that has a lot of stuff that would go to Line 23200.

If there’s nothing there, look at the CRA page, see what is likely to apply to you, and then go to that page in TurboTax. If you are using TurboTax Online, click on the Tax Home page (2024 tax return on the left) to find whatever page you need to look at. You can either click on the links on the page or use the search bar at the top.

You can also get PDF archive of your return that will show you the actual forms & schedules that make up your return.

Thanks!  These were all things I’ve done in the very first instance … we are well beyond that now.  I will log yet another complaint via phone.

I have the same problem. I have received a notice from CRA (July 2025) asking for support for the Other Deductions amount in line 23200. I can find nothing to support the amount. The return says "see schedule" but there is no schedule. The "Other Deductions" tab in turbotax is two pages of zeros. None of the things itemized by CRA seem to apply to me. I don't think I have any option other than responding to CRA that this seems to be a glitch in turbotax.

Hi - while I’m not certain this is your answer - the source code is drawing from a data table from CRA so it’s probably not a glitch but a carry forward amount from previous years.  Unfortunately, trying to get that info out of CRA is fruitless.   You need to go back through previous years and consider if there is absolutely anything e.g. an RRSP over contribution in another year perhaps?

Thanks for weighing in on this, I certainly share your frustration with the issue. I've checked the CRA info and there is nothing applicable (as best I can see). Whatever the source of the number is, I do think there is a turbotax glitch since the entry on line 23200 says "see schedule" and there is no schedule.

Convenient to say "see schedule" and not actually include it, and TurboTax will say they have coded the program in accordance with instruction from CRA, so IDK ... good luck!
