Troubleshooting: Completing add-on purchase outside TurboTax Desktop
If you encounter an issue while trying to purchase an add-on within the TTD application, you can use the contingency mode to complete your purchase in your default external web browser (like Chrome, Firefox, or MS Edge).
This process temporarily switches the application's purchase mechanism to bypass the in-product browser (CEFBrowser), allowing you to complete the transaction safely.
Steps to complete your purchase in contingency mode
Please follow these steps exactly to complete your purchase using your default external browser:
Close the TTD application. Ensure the application is fully closed before proceeding.
Download and run the switch file: Download and select the batch file: TTD_TID_ContingencySwitch.bat Download link
Activate contingency mode: When prompted, select option 1 to switch TTD into contingency mode.
Initiate purchase:
Launch the TTD application.
Start the in-product purchase process for your desired add-on.
Access external purchase: An error window will be displayed, indicating that a crash occurred during the purchase.
Click on Purchase Outside.

Complete purchase externally:
The purchase widget will load in your default external browser (e.g., Chrome, Safari, MS Edge).
You'll need to sign in to the widget and complete your purchase.
Exit TTD: Close the TTD application again.
Switching back to normal mode
After completing your purchase, you must switch the application back to its normal operating mode:
Run the Switch File: Double-click the batch file again: File TTD_TID_ContingencySwitch.bat link
Activate normal mode: Select option 2 to switch TTD back to normal mode.
Verify purchase:
Launch the TTD application.
The application will now show your newly purchased add-on.
