What's error code 21?

Error code 21 is due to a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) issue affecting all tax software in Canada.

It means the CRA can't accept your return because your NETFILE Access code doesn't match their records. Compare what you entered with the access code shown on your Notice of Assessment. 

Here's how to review your return:

TurboTax Online

  1. Go back to the 2024 tax return screen (found on the left menu).
  2. Find the Review section.
  3. Go through the review process again until you reach the Verification of personal information screen.
  4. Find the NETFILE Access code box.

Note: The NETFILE Access code isn't required to file.

TurboTax Desktop

  1. From the left menu, select Introduction then select Contact info.
  2. Scroll down to the Additional Personal Information section.
  3. Locate the NETFILE Access Code box.
