How do I claim the Québec Career Extension tax credit?

The Québec Career Extension tax credit is available for certain workers over the age of 59.
You must have:
- Lived in Québec on December 31
- Been 60 or older on December 31
- Earned certain types of income over $5,000, including:
- Employment income
- Business income
- Wage Earner Protection Program Act receipts
- Government income supplements to encourage employment or business either alone or as an active partner
- Research grants
The amount of the credit depends on your eligible work income (EWI) and is claimed on line 391 of the Québec TP-1 return. For 2025, the maximum credit amount is $1,400 for seniors between 60 and 64 years old and $1,540 for seniors aged 65 and over.
To claim the Québec Career Extension tax credit in TurboTax, follow the applicable steps below.
TurboTax Online
Note: Before you begin, complete the Introduction/Profile part of your return. This unlocks 2024 tax return.
- At 2024 tax return, under Add to your return, enter Québec and select Québec Credits.
- Check the box for Tax credit for career extension for workers who are 60 years or older, then continue.
- At Tax credit for career extension, Your EWI amount is shown, but if $0.00 is shown, you need to ensure that what you’ve entered into TurboTax meets the criteria for age, residency, income and so on.
- From anywhere, select View detailed tax summary.
- Scroll to the bottom and select Québec Detailed Tax Summary.
- Your credit amount is listed under Non-refundable tax credits next to line 391.
TurboTax Desktop
Note: Before you begin, complete the Introduction/Profile part of your return until the Find button appears in the menu.
- Select Find and enter credits profile.
- Select Québec credits profile, then Go.
- At Your Québec credits profile, check the box for Tax credit for career extension, then continue.
- Your EWI amount is listed at Tax credit for career extension. If $0.00 is shown, you need to ensure that what you’ve entered into TurboTax meets the criteria for age, residency, income and so on.
- From the menu, select PROVINCIAL > Québec > Detailed Québec tax summary.
Your credit amount is included under Non-refundable Tax Credits next to Volunt. firefighter, elderly worker, graduate in remote regions.
