Where do I enter political contributions?

by TurboTax Updated 1 week ago

You can claim contributions to registered federal or provincial political parties or to federal or provincial election candidate(s). You can't claim political contributions made to a candidate or party in a municipal election. However, if you live in Québec, there is a provincial tax credit for municipal donations.

Note: You can't carry forward political contributions to a future year, so be sure to claim the full amount in the year you made them.

  1. Select Find (or the magnifying glass icon) from the menu.
  2. Enter political contributions and select Go.
  3. On the Political Contributions step, enter your amounts, then select Continue.
  1. From the menu, select Profile and then the name of your profile.
  2. In your profile, select Continue to get to the second page.
  3. Answer Yes to the question Did you make donations to a charity or political party?
  4. Select I made political contributions, then select Continue.
  5. Select Find (or the magnifying glass icon) from the menu.
  6. Enter political contributions, select the result, and then select Go.
  7. On the Political contributions step, enter your amounts.
