Amending an amended tax return

1.  I filed my tax return in March

2.  We received a Form K-1 today, April 14

3.  I submitted an amended return this afternoon, including an e-check

4.  Later found out that I had mis-read the K-1to my disadvantage

5.  Walked through the revised tax return with a relative by updating my original return

6.  Once I did that, I tried to file an 2nd amended return using the Amend function

7.  TurboTax told me that there was no change to my tax return - probably due to my run-through with my relative

8.  I removed the K-1 info from that original tax return, and re-did the 2nd Amended form.

9.  I do not get the option to e-file that 2nd Amended form

Amending an amended tax return

Did you receive an acknowledgement from the IRS on your first amended efile?

You want to ensure you have received acknowledgement of the first amendment before trying to amend the second one.

To complete the second amendment you will need to manipulate your return by deleting the Form 1040X, which will leave you with a 1040 "original" return that includes the changes from the first amended return.

Then, you will start the amend process over again to put in the information needed for the second amendment.

When you start the second amendment the balance or refund due should be $0.
