How does one enter a spouse as a dependent when there is no such option in the dependent information dropdown menu?

A spouse is not entered as a "dependent" in the dependents section; they are entered via the Personal Information section. Change your marital status to married/common-law and enter their net income. TurboTax will then automatically calculate spousal amounts (Line 30300) and link returns.

Here is how to properly enter a spouse in TurboTax Canada:

  1. Use the "Personal Information" section: Do not use the "Dependants" section. Go to My Info or Personal Info in the menu.
  2. Update Marital Status: Indicate that you were married or in a common-law relationship on December 31, 2025.
  3. Enter Spouse's Details: Enter your spouse's name, SIN, and Net Income (Line 23600).
  4. How TurboTax Processes This: If your spouse’s net income is below the basic personal amount (approximately $16,129 in 2025), TurboTax will automatically calculate the spousal amount and transfer the information to Schedule 5
