When I added my elderly dependent's income, my spouse's refund diminshed sunstantially. Is this normal?

It could be normal.  For example: if your elderly dependent has income above a certain level, the amount you can claim on their behalf may be reduced or eliminated. In other words, even though you’re adding income that is taxed, that same income may also reduce the eligibility thresholds for credits that were boosting your refund. Before finalizing your return, it’s a good idea to review your entries:
 – Double-check that you’ve entered all the dependent’s income accurately.
 – Review any messages or calculations TurboTax provides related to non-refundable tax credits.
 – Consider if any adjustments (like splitting pension income or applying the correct amounts for the caregiver credit) might optimize your situation.
If you’re still unsure or if your numbers seem off, consulting with a tax professional or reaching out to TurboTax support can give you personalized guidance.
