Getting started
As a new resident, you will be liable to report your tax return on your worldwide income earned during the part of the year in which you are considered a resident in Canada. If after you have filled out your tax return, this indicates that you have an owing balance, you will have to pay tax in Canada.
As a newcomer, you also may be interested in filing your 2020 tax return to claim a refund or because you want to get benefits and credits payments.
If you did not earn Canadian Income since you were considered a new resident, you may be eligible to claim goods and services tax credit or receiving the Canada child benefit (Only applicable for a spouse or common-law partner)
Please visit Determining your resident status to validate your status for tax purposes.
