Getting started

I have now contacted the TT support team 3 more times. Wasting 30 to 40 minutes of both my time and TT customer support time.

With dual Canadian and U.S. citizenship my wife must, by law, file income tax in both countries. 

 

With TurboTax Canada 2024 desktop installed on my PC, TurboTax will NOT install TT US 2024.

Error: “TurboTax 2024 is already installed on this PC,  1) do you wish to Uninstall (no files will be lost), or 2) Repair existing program” presumably with TT US!

I have no problem explaining my TurboTax problem to any customer service agent. Even referring to this (my own) Customer support  answer from TurboTax Support.

 

But when they try to get an answer from, Tier 2 support, I get a plethora of useless answers:

1) You must load the programs one at a time, (Duh?).

2) You must have two PC’s to use both versions (Oh come on?).

3) If you uninstall one version it will Save all the relevant Forms. (Anyone who has really filed dual country income taxes knows full well that you must refer back and forward to correctly supply legal numbers to relevant Federal Income Tax Agencies.

4) You could load and unload each program when you need to!! (UNTRUE, I can never remember how I did it every year so far, but I have TurboTax Canada 2023 AND Turbotax US 2023 on my Windows 10 PC now and THEY BOTH WORK CONCURRENTLY.

5) The age old “pass the buck” phone Turbotax US at the following number, “they know how to do it. (THEY DON’T either).

 

OK, this is not a run-of-the-mill question, but there are 909,709 Americans living in Canada (as of 2022). Every one of which MUST file Canada AND US income tax. 

 

Come on people, Please just supply an approved TurboTax method of installing both Versions at the same time.
