I decided to try the online version of TurboTax. TurboTax indicates it’s completely secure. I started the return, and about three days later got an email directly from TurboTax saying “we see that you have entered your W-2 information. Keep going and finish up TurboTax and file your taxes.”.
the online version of course charges you only when you file your taxes, so this is TurboTax trying to get their money by nagging me to finish your return. But more shockingly TurboTax is telling me that they are monitoring my account and they know that I put in my W-2, and probably everything that I put there. This is utterly shocking that a company will monitor your progress and know exactly what you’re putting in. How can this be secure when big brother is monitoring you.
since I’ve invested nothing so far in TurboTax, I have decided to not finish the return and switched to H&R Block downloadable version.
