Yes, you can stop & start when you would like. TurboTax Do It Yourself (Online) saves every time you move to the next page using the Continue or Done buttons. There is also an option at the bottom left to save your return at any time. 

To prepare your return together with your spouse, you'll need to answer "My Spouse/Partner & Me" when it asks "Who are you preparing this return for?".
