Self-employed
The expenses due to COVID-19 offers you two methods to calculate work from home expense.
The flat rate and Detailed method.
The Detailed Method section of Form T777S.The CRA calculator can tell you what information is needed and which expenses are allowed. The calculator determines:
- Your employment use amount, which is usually also the amount for your home workspace expenses
- Your total expense claim amount, which includes office supplies and other expenses such as employment use of a mobile phone
Example:
Using the calculator, you've determined that your employment use amount is $1,000. You also have $1,000 in business mobile phone use and $500 in other business-related expenses.
$1,000 (employment use amount) + $1,000 (mobile phone) + $500 (misc. expenses) = $2,500 in eligible deductions you may claim
Try to logout and log back in your TurboTax online and follow the steps to input information for Detailed Method.
