can i claim work related expenses like tools, work clothes etc?

Only if you are a tradesperson, then you can. The CRA allows tradespeople to deduct a portion of the cost of tools and associated equipment purchased for work. if you wear a specific uniform, protective or occupation-specific clothing, you may be able to claim purchase and cleaning costs for these items
