Seniors and students

To enter tool expenses with a T2200 in TurboTax Canada while set as a student, you must navigate to the Employment Expenses section, not the Student/Tuition section. Even with a student profile, you can add the "Employment Expenses" topic to the report tool purchases, for which you need a signed T2200 form from your employer.

  • In the "Income & Expenses" or "Find" section, search for and select Employment Expenses.
  • In the Employment Expense Profile, check the box that says, "I received a form T2200." Ensure you select the option for "Tradesperson's Tools Expense."
  • Under the "Other Employment Expenses" section, enter the cost of eligible tools, your total employment income as a tradesperson, and any applicable CCA (capital cost allowance) if needed.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
