Can you tell me where to enter the date of elections for CPP overcontributions?

There is no spot on the T4AP screen or anywhere else I can find in the program to enter the date of election.  Can you tell me where it is please?

Are you trying to make an election to "stop contributing to CPP"? (There are no elections for overcontributions to CPP)

To make the election or enter the details of a previous election to stop paying CPP on your Self-Employed earnings using TurboTax Online or in the EasyStep view, go to Income > T-Slips > T4A(P) Canada Pension Plan Benefits.

On the T4A(P) - Summary screen, you can enter your information about previous elections or choose to stop contributing to CPP on your self-employment earnings. You must say "Yes" to the question - "Did you elect to stop contributing to CPP on your self-employment earnings in a year prior to 2017?"

This screen will only appear if you were 65 to 70 years of age.

My husband is 70 years old.  His employer deducted CPP at the beginning of 2018.  He signed a new Election form at that time to have them stop the deductions.  In completing his taxes, I have indicated that he is exempt on the screen where you enter the T4(A)P information.  There is no spot on that screen to enter the date the election was made.  When the review screen comes up at the end, it gives me a warning that this date needs to be entered and the links take me right back to the screen discussed above.  There is no spot to enter the date there.  Where do I find it?

When did your husband turn 70? And which version of TurboTax are you using? Is it installed/downloaded on your computer or is it the Online version?

My husband's DOB is irrelevant in this situation.  I only want to find the line to enter the date he signed the election form to stop his CPP deductions.  I am using the Basic version and I purchased the CD then loaded it to my computer.  Thank you

He was born in 1948.  I have ensured that his DOB is entered correctly on the form but do not have the option to click the YES box as described in the attachment.  I don't receive the bottom half of that print screen at all.   I'm not using the online version.  I purchased and installed the CR Rom version instead

That is very odd that you are not getting that option. (I only included the top part of the screen as I thought that should be all you needed  ) You can try signing out of your returns, then when you reopen them, be sure you do an "update". However, I think you may have to reach out to the Support Team and have them take a look at this. With that date entry, you should have no issues making that election.

I honestly thought I was talking to the Support Team.  How do I contact them?

Our Support team will be able to have a look at your tax return and be able to pinpoint the problem. Unfortunately, we can't see your return from this Answer XChange forum, so troubleshooting is often difficult. The instructions on how to reach our Support team are posted above in the answer provided. (To talk to a TurboTax specialist, fill out the Contact Us form)

The DOB is quite relevant if you are using the online version or in the EasyStep view of TurboTax CD. The taxpayer must be between 65 and 70 years of age, so if you have entered a date of birth prior to 1948, the screen will not appear to enter the date you made the CPP Election to stop contributing.

The attached screenshot shows the spot to make the entry.

If you are still having issues, please reach out to our Support Team for assistance.
