Do I go by payment date or service date? I paid the fees for my daughter's volleyball season 2022 in December 2021. should I claim in 2021 or 2022?

You can claim in 2021. (depends on the receipt.)

The receipt you received from volleyball organization should be issued for 2021 even if the activity takes place in 2022.
