How do I enter my husbands 2016 net income (line 236 on the federal return)when he hasn't yet filed his return for 2016?

I have his T4 slip so can I enter that amount instead? I don't understand how it asks for information for 2016 net income when this is the year we're trying to file a return for.

Yes, use his T4 (s) . If he has other income sources, make an estimate for them.
Use the amount shown in box 14 of his T4s.
