Sharing Turbo Tax Standard

I've been alternating purchasing Turbo Tax Standard with my dad for the last 5-10 years. Buying the software for install.

One person buys the software, and shares the license key with the other, so we can both do our taxes. This year is the first year I've passed the information to him, and the key won't work for him. Are you no longer allowed to install the software on multiple computers? I do see how buying 8 returns linked to one computer makes any sense. The error is that it is already linked to another account. Is this new to 2024 Turbo tax?

TurboTax Desktop License code can be install on 3 different computers. The difference this year is, the code will be registered under one account. If a 2nd person needs to install the Desktop software, they will have to enter the account information of the owner of the account. We invite you to visit this article for more information.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

After using the account with license on a desktop version can I save my tax return under my turbotax account?

No, you can't transfer the current year TurboTax file from your computer to your online TurboTax account. If you use the online TurboTax, you can transfer in your prior year TurboTax file from your computer to prepare your current year return using the online TurboTax.

Absolutely will not purchase Turbo Tax again although having been using for 10 years plus. There is no way that a product offering 8 returns on one license should not be shareable under INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNTS. I do not care who I share a household with (trusted family member or not) I am entitled to my financial privacy if I choose to maintain that option. Secondly I DO NOT feel that there is any need to have a mandatory on line account to use the product.....and in the the event that there are no other viable tax programs to meet my needs I would choose to go back to doing a paper return. Might be more time consuming but at least I can be comfortable in knowing my personal information is still mine.

one question on:

- " If a 2nd person needs to install the Desktop software, they will have to enter the account information of the owner of the account. "

Will the owner and this 2nd person see information of each other's return? Could you help to confirm?

No, if they are installed on different computers, you would not see each other's tax return.

Why on earth did they change this??
It was great before and so easy to share TurboTax with my family members.  We don't live together, and it worked great.

Now, we have to jump through hoops to share the software.  I have to tell each family member my online account name and password.  Then when they sign in using my credentials, i have to text them the code that is sent to my phone number.  Basically now you force people to do all this coordination just to install the **bleep** software.

Who's bright idea was this??

This is so stupid. Can guarantee I won’t be using turbo tax again if this is the same next yr. Be prepared to lose some customers over this
