Turbo Tax checked off that I have Exempt Income under the Indian Act, how do I correct this? I had tax exempt income on a T5007 from Workers Compensation

I have already filed the taxes and discovered on page 2 that it checked off Tax Expert Income under the Indian Act and Turbo tax completed a T90 which doesn't apply to my situation. How do I get this fixed?

In order to assist you properly, can you tell us which version of TurboTax you are using; Online or Desktop?

If you are using TurboTax Desktop, in Forms mode:

Go on your T1 General, page 2 // checked the box in Indian Act - Exempt income

In TurboTax Online:

From your 2024 tax return section (on the left menu) // click on Profile // mandatory question // answer YES to the question related to the Indian Act.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

Turbo Tax checked off that I have Exempt Income under the Indian Act, how do I correct this? I had tax exempt income on a T5007 from Workers Compensation

Hi,

Sorry you have misunderstood the issue.  I am using the On-line version and we Do Not have exempt income under the Indian Act.  This is exempt income from Worker's Compensation it has nothing to do with the Indian Act.  On the profile questions we answered No to having any income under the Indian Act but despite that Turbo Tax checked it off and completed a T90.  We have a T5007 and filled in that form correctly but Turbo Tax has incorrectly dealt with it.

At the top of the T90 it says:

If you are registered or entitled to be registered under the Indian Act, your personal property, including income, is exempt from tax when it is situated on a reserve.

Use this form to calculate your net exempt income if all of the following apply:

• You are registered or entitled to be registered under the Indian Act

• You have income that is exempt from tax under the Indian Act

Turbo Tax filled this form out despite the fact it doesn't apply to our situation as it says to only use the T90 if all of those conditions apply and we are not registered under the Indian Act.

I don't know how to get this corrected and refiled.

Thank you,

Jill
