Does a dual citizen (US-Canada) living in Canada drawing Canadian wages who pays US taxes have to file a Canadian return for the US foreign income tax exclusion wages?

Wife is dual citizen.  Husband is US Citizen.  Husband and wife filed joint US return with Canadian wages qualifying for the US foreign income tax exclusion.  Wife did not pay US taxes on that income.  Does the Wife file an individual return in Canada for the wages that were excluded from US taxes?  The product information below is for the US version of turbo tax.

Although I am uncertain of taxation rules on the American side, I can surely advise you for Canadian tax returns.  Dual citizenship is still required to file the Canadian tax return.

You firstly must ensure you are on the Canadian site:

  • Two things to keep in mind when doing so, residency status - please see below:

  • And how to enter in your foreign (USA) income because we have a tax treaty with them means you will not be double taxed on income sources:

How do I enter foreign income that is subject to a tax treaty?
