I have permanently left Canada on 31st July 2024 (I came in June 2023), yesterday I was advised I am deemed resident, but per CRA website I think I should be emigrant?

My concern is about reporting income from my home country from August 2024 to December 2024 - as emigrant, I think I should report only Canadian income from January 2024 to July 2024 (https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/international-non-residents/individuals-leaving...). I didn't have foreign income from Jan-Jul 2024 or canadian income from Aug 24 to Dec 24.

Based on the information provided and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) website, you are likely an emigrant, not a deemed resident, for the tax year 2024. This is because you severed your residential ties with Canada on July 31, 2024, by establishing a permanent home in another country and leaving Canada, which is the key factor for determining emigrant status. Your return will be filed for the tax year 2024, which runs from January 1st to December 31st. You should generally report Canadian-source income for the period you were a resident, which likely would be until July 31, 2024.

For more information, we suggest contacting CRA.
