As you were previously a Resident of Canada for tax purposes you need to verify your residency status prior to November 2016. If you had confirmed your status as non-resident when immigrating from Canada then you would not have to report your US income as taxable income on the part year 2016 tax return. You would provide the foreign earned income information in order to correctly calculate non-refundable tax credits as a part year resident. Turbo Tax software can assist you in doing this.
