Where do I report capital gain on sell of a rental property

Using TurboTax Online, you need the premier version in order to access rental property income.

Once you own the premier version, these are the steps to follow:

  • Complete profile section
  • Answer all that apply, making sure you check, yes for "income from investments such as interest earned on investments, the sale of stocks or stock options, cryptocurrency/token transactions, the sale of real property, income from rental property or other related investment expenses".
  • You will scroll down until you see the question "Did you sell stock, bonds, mutual funds, real estate or other property?" You will say "YES" which will open up more information and you will check off "I sold rental property, land or buildings" and any other that applies to you. Click on continue.
  • You will then go to the left hand side of your return and click on Income-Investments-Capital Gain.
  • Here you would enter any income from capital gains from sale of property.

Thank you for using TurboTax.
