If you own or rent a home in Manitoba, you may be eligible to claim the Manitoba education property tax credit to help cover the rent and/or school taxes you pay. A maximum credit of $438 is available for tax year 2022.
New for 2022 is the Renters Tax Credit (RTC). This refundable credit replaces the former rent component of the Education Property Tax Credit, and allows you to claim a fixed monthly rate of $43.75 per rental month, up to a maximum of $525 per year.
To be eligible, you must meet all of the required criteria:
Note: You’ve already received your full benefit if you were 65 or older at the end of the year, your family income was more than $40,000, and the tax credit was applied as an advance on your 2022 municipal property tax statement.
However, if you did not receive an advance for the Manitoba Education Property Tax Credit, you would not need to enter anything under "Manitoba Education Property Tax Credit Advance" in your tax return.
