I have unused federal and provincial tuition and education amounts. When I enter them, they increase my tax refund. Why's that? I thought it is only supposed to make it 0

As seen in our TurboTax article: Understanding Tuition Tax Credits. (You do not need to enter these amounts as the CRA will enter and apply them.)

The amounts of unused credit are applied to reduce tax payable automatically. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) applies the available tuition amount carried forward every year to reduce your taxes to zero until it has all been used.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
