I received an alert about tuition fee exceeding $5000 but my T2202 only states $2248.93 for 2016 total tuition fees.

There is an amount ($2420.00) which I'm not sure where it came from under "2016 total education and textbook amount".

Currently, the full-time student education amount is $400 per month of enrolment and the part-time amount is $120 per month of enrolment.

The student can claim a textbook amount of $65 per month enrolled if eligible to claim the full-time education tax credit, and $20 per month if eligible to claim the part-time education tax credit.

The maximum education and textbook tax credits are calculated by multiplying the lowest personal income tax rate (15% in 2016) by the total of the education and textbook amounts. This means that the maximum tax credit that a student enrolled full-time for 8 months in the year may earn is $558 (that is, $465 x 8 months x 15%).

On your T2202, how many months are indicated as full time/part time?

4 months of full time education gets you an additional credit of $1860, and 4 months part time adds $560.  This totals the additional $2420.

Did CRA download this amount automatically?

This is from the T2202 receipt that you entered for 2016.  Terry has shown the amounts for the education credits, and textbook amounts...the software merely calculates this based on the number of months you entered for full time and/or part time.  These numbers are shown on the CRA site, you can see at this link:

You have your tuition receipt...that is all you need if CRA asks for documentation.
