If I enter our information separately we both get a refund. I get 3400.00 one and he gets a 14900.00. If combined I owe 249 and he drops to 10,900 can you tell me why?

When you each prepare your return individually, you likely did not enter the other spouse's income. This will create a spousal credit of over $11,000 which you do not qualify for. Try entering each other's income to the ones you prepared apart and they will come out the same.
