My husband collected disability insurance while getting cancer treatments in 2016. The income is not taxable. Can I claim the spousal amount for him now?

The insurance company that is paying the disability income refused to send me a statement of the total income paid to my husband as they stated it is non-taxable. I am wondering about this but if it is true can I now claim the spousal amount on my tax return?

Provided YOU paid for premiums for the disability insurance, it is NOT taxable. The insurance company is correct.

You can claim spousal amounts for him if he has no other income.
