Turbotax guided me to claim a 2017 education amount but now that i have looked into it I'm pretty sure that effective Jan 2017 we are no longer supposed to claim it.

If you did receive a T2202A showing entries for full time and/or part time months in attendance at the educational institution, you should enter the information in the T2202A slips (exactly as shown) into the TurboTax program that you are using. Depending on the province where you reside, there are still some "education amounts" available to be claimed in the provincial tax calculation of the tax returns.
