First, please make sure that you have purchased the right product. The codes for TurboTax Online will not work with TurboTax Desktop & vice-versa.

Second, if you bought TurboTax at a retailer (Costco, Walmart, Staples, etc…), please make sure that you are using the code that came in the package. It may be on a slip of paper or on a scratch-off card. It is not on the outside of the box or on your receipt.

If you have bought TurboTax Online, please go to turbotax.ca/activate to use your code before you start your returns. You can see this TurboTax FAQ for step-by-step instructions: In TurboTax Online, how do I use a prepayment code? Please note that you can only use the code once in one account. Using the code again will give an error message.

If you have bought TurboTax Desktop, you will be asked for the licence code when you install the software. Please see this TurboTax FAQ for more information on the licence code: Where is my TurboTax licence code? You can download the current version of TurboTax Desktop edition here: Choose the current TurboTax Desktop edition you need (for Windows). You can download older versions of TurboTax Desktop edition here: Where can I download the Desktop edition of TurboTax?

How many computers can I install TurboTax Standard 2024?  It used to be 2 computers but I'm having issues when installing on second PC.

Im having the same issue. I have the Deluxe Online Edition and I went to turbotax.ca/activate and logged in before entering my activation code but I consistently get an error saying Something's not right, try re-entering your code. How am I supposed to file my taxes when I cant get in?

@hankstar1 To activate your TurboTax Online version, please visit this link. Select that "I have an account," log into your account, and proceed to the second step by adding your 16-digit activation code to review and activate the TurboTax Online product.

@hankstar1 Where did you purchase the product from? Does it say an online version or a desktop version? Is this code shared with anyone else?

Thanks for the help, it was the need to login to my account that's the difference this year.

@hankstar1 If you or your father bought TurboTax Online, you can activate this code only one time, in one account. All returns have to be produced in the same account where the code was originally activated.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

@TurboTaxVeronique what does that mean?  The package clearly states "Activation code for 8 returns". Do I have to log in to my fathers account in order to file? How do I access my account if I do so?

Is that code already linked to your father's account? If the code is activated and linked to one account, it cannot be linked to another account.

So does that mean I cant even use it to file my return? Or can I log in to his account and file?

@hankstar1 Yes, it states 8 returns but one account or user only. You can certainly log into his account to prepare and file your return.
