You can't take a capital loss on an asset that you have taken CCA on. If you dispose of an asset at a loss but still have another asset in that class, the CCA class pool "absorbs" the loss.

Thank you for this. I just found this section with the answer. I think my situation is different. I am a contractor, self employed so I do not receive a T-4 from my client. I track the income and expenses from the invoice I submit to the client. I do appreciate your effort to answer though. Thanks!

We appreciate you choosing TurboTax,
The eligible dependant tax credit cannot be claimed for your father-in-law because you do not meet the criteria to claim him as a dependent.
You can claim your wife's spousal tax credit since she has lived with you.
The Canada Caregiver Credit may be available to you if your father relies on you for support due to a physical or mental disability.
It is designed for single adults who are responsible for the financial care of a family member and who are not entitled to claim the spouse/common-law partner credit.
Both of the following criteria must be met to claim the credit:
Throughout the year:
You didn't live with or receive support from a spouse or common-law partner.
The dependant lived with you and was supported by you, meaning you maintained a home for the dependent.
Simply visiting is not enough.

When you are married, you and your spouse can file joint tax returns or separate tax returns. However, you cannot claim credit for your son as a dependant. If you want to claim the dependent tax credit for your son, he must be under 18 or have a physical or mental impairment.
You can, however, transfer your child's tuition tax credit to him. Your child on their tax return must first claim this. Afterwards, your child can transfer the remaining amount or carry it forward if there is any leftover. Typically, students don't earn much income while attending college or university.
Tax credits can be transferred up to $5,000 per child, less the amount used to reduce tax owing.
In addition, if your son relies on you for support because of a physical or mental impairment, you are also eligible for the Canada caregiver credit. For example, when you regularly provide an individual with enough food, shelter, and clothing, you are considered a source of support for them and the individual is deemed to
