One of the reasons for using Turbotax is the ability to put our joint data in and have TT do the calculations. Want to split pensions? Easy - TT will ask you how you want that split done. Want to split medical expenses? Tough luck... TT knows best and will allocate ALL expenses to one spouse - regardless of what you want to do. TT answer to "but I really do want to determine the split"? is you must enter everything in two separate sessions - one for each spouse. Giving the ability to permit the user to allocate medical expenses would be extremely simple - and no... TT does not always know best. With our pension split our taxable incomes are identical - which is why we want to split the medical expenses to begin with. And that 3% deduction advantage? Eaten up by the additional tax on the partner not claiming any medical costs. I completed the returns myself manually - as I will now do next year and on.
