CCA stands for Capital Cost Allowance. You might acquire a depreciable property such as a building, furniture, or equipment to use in your business or professional activities. These properties wear out or become obsolete over time, you can deduct their cost over a period of several years. This yearly deduction is called a capital cost allowance. You cannot deduct the full cost of depreciable property when you calculate your net business or professional income for the year in which you acquired the property. You may want to contact the Canada Revenue Agency for additional information.

In order to transfer your son's tuition credits to you, you will need to first prepare an income tax return for your son and designate the transfer on his income tax return. You will then be able to claim the tuition transfer on your income tax return.

When using TurboTax Standard, click on the heading titled Setting up and then click on Intro. Click on Revisit next to Personal Information and click on edit information. You will then be able to make any necessary correction to your date of birth. There isn't a question though to ask if the Canada Revenue Agency already has your complete date of birth on file. It will ask though if you are a first time filer. You can check with the Canada Revenue Agency at 1 800 959 8281 to verify if they do have your date of birth on file.

You are only able to claim rent paid in one province on your income tax return. For example, if you were a student in Ontario, you can claim rent on your income tax return but if you were in another province after graduation, you will not be able to claim that rent on your income tax return.

If you received a NETFILE confirmation code, you can rest assured that your income tax return has been submitted to the Canada Revenue Agency. It can take as little as 8 business days for your income tax return to be processed when you NETFILE. However, the Canada Revenue Agency requests that you wait at least 4 weeks before contacting them as it can sometimes take longer to process your income tax return. If it has been at least 4 weeks, you may want to contact the Canada Revenue Agency at 1 800 959 8281 to check on the status of your income tax return.
