What if I have trouble with my licence code while setting up TurboTax Download?

Note: As of tax year 2020, TurboTax refers to the installation key as a licence code for TurboTax Download and as an activation code for TurboTax Online.

Your licence code is 16 letters and numbers grouped into four segments. Before you begin troubleshooting, check to make sure you entered the correct licence code.

Example: A2XC-BEGH-U2D2-JRPL

If you enter your licence code and receive the message The licence code you entered is not valid. Error code: 607, you may have entered an incorrect code.

Most licence code issues can be resolved by carefully double-checking and reentering the code. If that doesn't solve your problem, see our Contact Us page or call TurboTax Support at 1-888-829-8608.

Be sure to save your licence code in case you need to contact Intuit Canada for technical support.

If you're having trouble activating TurboTax Desktop in 2018 or prior years, follow these steps:

  1. Install and open TurboTax Desktop.
  2. Enter the installation key, then select Next.
  3. When asked to choose your activation method, select Automated Telephone Activation, then Next.
  4. In the new window, you'll see the installation and computer keys. Write down these codes for later use, then close the window.
  5. Call TurboTax support or download the activation tool here.
  6. Open the TurboTax Canada Activation tool.
  7. Select the tax year, enter the installation and computer key codes, then select Activate.
  8. Once you've received the successful activation pop-up, close the activation tool and open TurboTax Desktop.
