How do I enter other employment income?
Some common types of other employment income are:
- Foreign employment income (Foreign income slip)
- Royalties (T5 slip – box 17)
- Income from an employee-profit sharing plan (T4PS slip)
- Research grants, wage-loss replacement income, medical premium benefits, veteran’s benefits, wage-earner protection program (T4A slip)
- Tips, gratuities, and occasional earnings (may not be reported on a slip, or may be reported on a T4 slip – box 14)
- Clergy’s housing allowance or amount for eligible utilities (T4 slip – box 14)

By comparison, other income is often not related to employment not related to employment and is treated differently for income tax. Some examples include: scholarships, bursaries, alimony, and retirement allowances. For more examples, see Line 13000 - Other Income.
To enter other employment income from a slip or form:
- Answer the initial Personal Info interview questions if you haven't already. This unlocks the Tax Home screen.
- From the Tax Home screen, under Add to your return, enter the type of slip, and select that type of slip from the results list.
- On the screen for the applicable tax slip, enter your other employment income amount in the appropriate box.
- If you don’t see an appropriate box, but there’s Other boxes, try selecting it. This is the case, for example, with royalty income from box 17 of a T5 slip.
- Select the Done with [slip].
- Select the icon of the magnifying glass (or Find) on TurboTax, and type Slips.
- Select T-Slips from the options that appear, then select Go.
- On the Entering your federal T-slips screen, select your slips from the list, then select Continue. TurboTax will display a separate entry screen for each slip you select.
- Follow the instructions on each entry screen to enter the information from your slips. Be sure to enter the information exactly as it appears on each slip.
- If you don’t see an appropriate box, but there’s Other boxes, try selecting it. This is the case, for example, with royalty income from box 17 of a T5 slip.
- Select the Done with [slip].
To enter other employment income not reported on a slip or form:
- Answer the initial Personal Info interview questions if you haven't already. This unlocks the Tax Home screen.
- From the Tax Home screen, under Add to your return, enter Other, and select Tips, Gratuities, and Other Employment Income.
- On the Other Employment Income Sources screen, fill in the boxes as applicable for Tips, gratuities or occasional earning, or under Other employment income, Specify, and Amount, and then select Continue.
- If you don’t see an appropriate box, but there’s Other boxes, try selecting it. This is the case, for example, with royalty income from box 17 of a T5 slip.
- Select the icon of the magnifying glass (or Find) on TurboTax, then type Employment into the search field.
- Select Other employment income from the options that appear, then select Go. The Other Income screen appears.
- On the Other Employment Income Sources screen, fill in the boxes as applicable for Tips and gratuities received, Occasional earnings, or under Other employment income, Specify and Amount, and then select Continue.
