How do I claim the Manitoba education property tax credit?
If you own a home in Manitoba, you may be eligible to claim the Manitoba education property tax credit. A maximum credit of $350 is available for 2024.
You qualify if:
- You were a resident of Manitoba at the end of the year.
- You were 16 years of age or older at the end of the year.
- You paid school tax on a principal residence in 2024
You're disqualified if:
- You were 65 years of age or older at the end of the year.
- Your family income was more than $40,000.
Select your product and follow the instructions to claim this credit.
- Answer the initial Personal info questions if you haven't already. This unlocks 2024 tax return.
- From 2024 tax return, under Add to your return, enter Provincial, then select Provincial Tax Credit.
- At Manitoba Tax Credits, select Education Property Tax Credit, then continue.
- At Education Property Tax Credit Summary, select Add new.
- At Manitoba Education Property Tax Credit, enter your info and select Save and Continue.
- Review Education Property Tax Credit Summary, and continue.
- At Here's your Manitoba tax and credits summary, review your credits and continue.
- Answer all the initial interview questions if you haven't already.
- Select Find.
- Search for and select Manitoba taxes, then Go.
- Continue to Manitoba tax credits. Select Education and/or residential renters tax credit, then Continue.
- If you received an advance on this tax credit, enter the amount, plus who's claiming the credit. Select Continue.
- At Manitoba education property/residential renters tax credit, enter your info and select Continue.
- At Declaration for the Education Property Tax Credit, enter the names of anyone who lived with you (other than your spouse, common-law partner, or dependent children) and select Continue.
- Proceed until you arrive at Manitoba tax and credit summary. You’ll see your credit amount next to Net education property and school tax credit for homeowners and renters.
