How do I claim the Manitoba education property tax credit?

If you own a home in Manitoba, you may be eligible to claim the Manitoba education property tax credit. A maximum credit of $350 is available for 2024.

You qualify if:

  • You were a resident of Manitoba at the end of the year.
  • You were 16 years of age or older at the end of the year.
  • You paid school tax on a principal residence in 2024

You're disqualified if:

  • You were 65 years of age or older at the end of the year.
  • Your family income was more than $40,000.

Select your product and follow the instructions to claim this credit.

  1. Answer the initial Personal info questions if you haven't already. This unlocks 2024 tax return.
  2. From 2024 tax return, under Add to your return, enter Provincial, then select Provincial Tax Credit.
  3. At Manitoba Tax Credits, select Education Property Tax Credit, then continue.
  4. At Education Property Tax Credit Summary, select Add new.
  5. At Manitoba Education Property Tax Credit, enter your info and select Save and Continue.
  6. Review Education Property Tax Credit Summary, and continue.
  7. At Here's your Manitoba tax and credits summary, review your credits and continue.
  1. Answer all the initial interview questions if you haven't already.
  2. Select Find.
  3. Search for and select Manitoba taxes, then Go.
  4. Continue to Manitoba tax credits. Select Education and/or residential renters tax credit, then Continue.
  5. If you received an advance on this tax credit, enter the amount, plus who's claiming the credit. Select Continue.
  6. At Manitoba education property/residential renters tax credit, enter your info and select Continue.
  7. At Declaration for the Education Property Tax Credit, enter the names of anyone who lived with you (other than your spouse, common-law partner, or dependent children) and select Continue.
  8. Proceed until you arrive at Manitoba tax and credit summary. You’ll see your credit amount next to Net education property and school tax credit for homeowners and renters.
