If you own a home in Manitoba, you may be eligible to claim the Manitoba education property tax credit. A maximum credit of $350 is available for 2023.
You qualify if:
- You were a resident of Manitoba at the end of the year.
- You were 16 years of age or older at the end of the year.
- You paid school tax on a principal residence in 2023
You're disqualified if:
- You were 65 years of age or older at the end of the year.
- Your family income was more than $40,000.
Select your product and follow the instructions to claim this credit.
TurboTax Online
- Answer all the initial interview questions if you haven't already.
- In the left menu, select Provincial, then Provincial Tax Credit Profile.
- Select Education Property Tax Credit then Continue.
- On the Education Property Tax Credit Summary screen, select Add new.
- On the Manitoba Education Property Tax Credit screen, enter your info and select Save and Continue.
- Select Continue to be taken to your Manitoba tax and credits summary.
TurboTax CD/Download
- Answer all the initial interview questions if you haven't already.
- Select Find.
- Search for and select Manitoba taxes, then Go.
- Continue until you get to the Manitoba tax credits screen. Select Education and/or residential renters tax credit, then Continue.
- If you received an advance on this tax credit, enter the amount, plus who's claiming the credit. Select Continue.
- On the Manitoba education property/residential renters tax credit screen, enter your info and select Continue.
- On the Declaration for the Education Property Tax Credit screen, enter the names of anyone who lived with you (other than your spouse, common-law partner, or dependent children).
- Select Continue
- Proceed until you arrive at the Manitoba tax and credit summary screen. You’ll see your credit amount next to Net education property and school tax credit for homeowners and renters.
