How do I claim the capital cost allowance (CCA) on a zero-emission vehicle in TurboTax?

To claim CCA on a zero-emission vehicle in TurboTax, select your situation and follow the instructions. These steps don't apply to taxis or vehicles for lease or rent.

  1. Answer all the initial interview questions if you haven't already.
  2. Select Find, search for and select Employment Expenses, then select Go.
  3. On the Employment Expenses screen, select Yes.
  4. On the Employment Expense Profile screen, select I received form T2200 and Continue.
    • If you didn't receive form T2200 from your employer, you aren't eligible for this claim.
  5. On the Employment Expense Profile screen, select Motor Vehicle Expenses, then Continue.
  6. On the Employment Related Driving screen, enter your vehicle details.
  7. If you're using TurboTax
  8. Under Enter the details of your vehicle if owned (not leased) and you want to claim Capital Cost Allowance (CCA):
    • For Class of vehicle, select 54: 30%.
    • For Claim AII/ZEV, select Yes.
  9. After entering all your info, select Done With Vehicle.
  10. You’ll arrive at the Motor Vehicle Expenses Summary. If you’re claiming less than the maximum CCA, change the CCA For Year amount on the Motor Vehicle Expenses Summary screen.
  11. Select Done With Vehicles.
  1. Answer all the initial interview questions if you haven't already.
  2. Select Find, search for and select Self-Employment, then select Go.
  3. On the Did you have any self-employment income and expenses screen, select Yes, then Continue.
  4. Continue to answer questions about your self-employment. Continue through the Next up, claiming your expenses screen.
  5. On the Select the types of expenses you have screen, select Add under Vehicle expenses, then Continue.
  6. Select Start under Vehicle expenses.
  7. Answer Yes to Did you use a vehicle for your work?
  8. Select Add a new vehicle.
  9. Answer the questions about your vehicle until you get to the Let’s calculate your capital cost allowance (CCA) screen. Select Class 54 (30%) then Continue.
  10. Continue to answer questions about your vehicl until the Your Vehicle Expenses Summary screen. If you’re claiming less than the maximum CCA, change the CCA For Year amount.
  11. Select Done with Vehicles.

    • For CCA Class, enter 54.
  7. Once all details are entered, select Done.

  2. Select Find, search for and select Self-Employment, then select Go.
  3. On the Your self-employment profile for 2023 screen, select your work category, then Continue.
  4. Answer questions about your self-employment.
  5. On the second T2125 - Professional Business Statement #1 screen, enter your info until you get to the If you purchased motor vehicles during the year, enter the details here. section.
    1. For Class #, enter 54.
    2. Select the ZEV/AII checkbox.
    3. Enter the vehicle cost.
  6. Complete the Calculation of Motor Vehicle Expenses section, then select Continue.
