How do I claim the capital cost allowance (CCA) on a zero-emission vehicle in TurboTax?

To claim CCA on a zero-emission vehicle in TurboTax, select your situation and follow the instructions. These steps don't apply to taxis or vehicles for lease or rent.

  1. Answer all the initial Personal Info interview questions if you haven't already. This unlocks 2024 tax return.
  2. From 2024 tax return, under Add to your return, enter employment and select Employment Expenses.
  3. At Employment Expenses, select Yes.
  4. At Employment Expense Profile, select I received form T2200 and continue.
    • If you didn't receive Form T2200 from your employer, you aren't eligible for this claim.
  5. At Employment Expense Profile, select Motor Vehicle Expenses, then Continue.
  6. At Employment Related Driving, enter your vehicle, mileage, and expense details.
  7. Under Enter the details of your vehicle if owned (not leased)
    • For Class of vehicle, select 54: 30%.
    • For Claim AII/ZEV, select Yes.
  8. After entering all your info, select Done With Vehicle.
  9. You’ll arrive at Motor Vehicle Expenses Summary. If you’re claiming less than the maximum CCA, change the CCA For Year amount at Motor Vehicle Expenses Summary.
  10. Select Done With Vehicles.
  1. Answer all the initial Personal Info and Tax Profile interview questions if you haven't already. This unlocks 2024 tax return.
  2. From 2024 tax return, under Add to your return, enter self and select Self-Employment.
  3. At Your Self-Employment or Business Summary, select Enter New Business.
  4. Continue to answer questions about your self-employment. Continue on past Next up, claiming your expenses to Select the types of expenses you have.
  5. Under Vehicle expenses, select Add, then continue.
  6. At Here’s your business info, under Vehicle expenses, select Start.
  7. At Did you use a vehicle for your work? select Yes.
  8. At Vehicle expenses summary, select Add a new vehicle.
  9. At Let's get some info about this vehicle, answer the questions about your vehicle until you get to Let’s calculate your capital cost allowance (CCA). Select Class 54 (30%) then continue.
  10. Continue to answer questions about your vehicle up to Vehicle Expenses Summary. If you’re claiming less than the maximum CCA, under CCA For Year, change the number .
  11. Select Done.

    • For CCA Class, enter 54.
  7. Once all details are entered, select Done.

  2. Select Find, search for Business, select Business profile, then select Go.
  3. At Business expert interview, select Continue.
  4. Continue through the steps, answering questions about your self-employment.
  5. At T2125 Vehicle Expenses, select Yes.
  6. At T2125 Business Related Driving, enter your info about the mileage driven, then continue through the steps for expenses.
  7. At Fixed Assets, select the appropriate box. Following the path for a ZEV that was purchased in 2024, we select I purchased equipment, vehicles or buildings.
  8. Continue to T2125 - Fixed Assets Purchased (Vehicle):
    • For Class #, enter 54.
    • Select the ZEV/AII and DIEP checkboxes.
    • Enter the vehicle cost.
