How do I claim the capital cost allowance (CCA) on a zero-emission vehicle in TurboTax?
To claim CCA on a zero-emission vehicle in TurboTax, select your situation and follow the instructions. These steps don't apply to taxis or vehicles for lease or rent.
- Answer all the initial interview questions if you haven't already.
- Select Find, search for and select Employment Expenses, then select Go.
- On the Employment Expenses screen, select Yes.
- On the Employment Expense Profile screen, select I received form T2200 and Continue.
- If you didn't receive form T2200 from your employer, you aren't eligible for this claim.
- On the Employment Expense Profile screen, select Motor Vehicle Expenses, then Continue.
- On the Employment Related Driving screen, enter your vehicle details.
- If you're using TurboTax
- Under Enter the details of your vehicle if owned (not leased) and you want to claim Capital Cost Allowance (CCA):
- For Class of vehicle, select 54: 30%.
- For Claim AII/ZEV, select Yes.
- After entering all your info, select Done With Vehicle.
- You’ll arrive at the Motor Vehicle Expenses Summary. If you’re claiming less than the maximum CCA, change the CCA For Year amount on the Motor Vehicle Expenses Summary screen.
- Select Done With Vehicles.
- Answer all the initial interview questions if you haven't already.
- Select Find, search for and select Self-Employment, then select Go.
- On the Did you have any self-employment income and expenses screen, select Yes, then Continue.
- Continue to answer questions about your self-employment. Continue through the Next up, claiming your expenses screen.
- On the Select the types of expenses you have screen, select Add under Vehicle expenses, then Continue.
- Select Start under Vehicle expenses.
- Answer Yes to Did you use a vehicle for your work?
- Select Add a new vehicle.
- Answer the questions about your vehicle until you get to the Let’s calculate your capital cost allowance (CCA) screen. Select Class 54 (30%) then Continue.
- Continue to answer questions about your vehicl until the Your Vehicle Expenses Summary screen. If you’re claiming less than the maximum CCA, change the CCA For Year amount.
- Select Done with Vehicles.
- Answer all the initial interview questions if you haven't already.
- Select Find, search for and select Employment Expenses, then select Go.
- On the Employment Expenses screen, select Yes.
- On the Employment Expense Profile screen, select Motor Vehicle Expenses, then Continue.
- On the Employment Related Driving screen, enter your vehicle details, and Continue.
- Continue to answer questions about your vehicle until you get to the Capital Cost Allowance (CCA) screen.
- Once all details are entered, select Done.
- Answer all the initial interview questions if you haven't already.
- Select Find, search for and select Self-Employment, then select Go.
- On the Your self-employment profile for 2023 screen, select your work category, then Continue.
- Answer questions about your self-employment.
- On the second T2125 - Professional Business Statement #1 screen, enter your info until you get to the If you purchased motor vehicles during the year, enter the details here. section.
- For Class #, enter 54.
- Select the ZEV/AII checkbox.
- Enter the vehicle cost.
- Complete the Calculation of Motor Vehicle Expenses section, then select Continue.
