How do I transfer the age amount to my spouse or partner?

SOLVEDby TurboTax25Updated January 09, 2024

In TurboTax, the non-refundable federal and provincial age amount credits are automatically calculated and added to your return as long as you meet the eligibility criteria.

When completing a coupled return in TurboTax, any unused portion that isn’t needed to reduce your tax owing is automatically transferred to your spouse or common-law partner. Your spouse/partner doesn’t need to meet any age or income criteria to receive this transfer.

To view the federal age amount for you and your spouse/partner, follow the steps below.

  1. Select Find (magnifying glass), and enter bottom line into the search bar.
  2. Select Bottom Line (Tax Summaries) from the list of populated results, then select Go.
  3. Select the See Detailed Tax Summary link provided.
  4. Under Federal non-refundable tax credits, find the lines for Age amount (30100), and Amounts transferred from your spouse/partner (32600).
  1. Select Find and enter detailed.
  2. Select Detailed tax summary, then Go.
  3. The age amount is included in the line for Other amounts under Federal non-refundable tax credits.
