Claiming 'Spousal Amount'; what are the advantages/ disadvantages of claiming this? My Spouse makes more than I do.
If you have the lower income, then your spouse would claim the spousal amount for you, if your income was less than their basic personal amount. TurboTax will automatically apply the credit if your spouse qualifies. The advantage is that your spouse gets a non-refundable credit, and there is no downside.
