What does this mean

No. Please wait 24-48 hours before checking the IRS website so they have a chance to update it. You can also try calling the WMR automated hotline at 1-800-829-1954 to check the status of your refund. Please see below for more information.

What does this mean

when “where’s my refund” status says we are STILL processing your tax return, it usually means  there might be a questionable situation and they are probably going to be sending you a correspondence, to either inquire on additional information, or they are making corrections and they’ll continue processing your tax return. However, this is only my understanding from past years experience and others, I know who’ve also experienced this particular scenario amid their tax returns and “WMR” on irs.gov  It’s important to note, that more likely you’ll receive mail from internal revenue and they usually let you know that your tax return is under review, and will request additional information from you or will say “no further information is needed” from you at this time, and your return will be processed within 60 (some times it says 45) days, if they need anything else, a letter will be mailed for correspondence. Or your file will be updated on WMR once the review is complete, and a refund date is issued. But, I heard, if your return is delayed, calling the IRS will only further delay your refund. However, that is not 100% verifiable fact, it’s been said by many tax filers who ran into delays, reviews, and audits the last few years. Many low wage and middle wage earners have been going through these delays during tax season in recent years.

What does this mean

When it says “your tax return is being processed” opposed to “your tax return is STILL processing” it’s a normal status, and so far your on the right track in the processing system. If it changes to STILL processing, then your return might of hit a snag, and might be under review. But March 16th was very recent, I’m sure, it’s “so far, so good! Just continue checking your status on irs.gov at least once a day (their system only updates once daily, usually over night) and from past experience and others who’ve also experienced delays, have reason to believe that calling the irs will only prolong your refund date, once your taxes go under review. However that’s not 100% certain. Only personal opinion. Thanks, and hope all turns out well, in your favor this tax season.

What does this mean

I’ve read that anyone with ACTC or EITC was held until Feb 27th to start actually processing. Which means the earliest deposit dates won’t be until March 21st. I’ve got both and have been checking daily; I have no itemizations, took the standard deductions, just have those two credits.

I’m hoping tomorrow, March 22nd, the status changes.

What does this mean

Since you have already submitted your tax return, wait until you receive an email informing you that it is accepted or rejected. Don't make any changes while your tax return is pending.

If your tax return is rejected, you may sign in to TurboTax and add your W-2 along with fixing the rejection. If your tax return is accepted, once it’s processed, you can file an amendment through TurboTax using Form 1040-X. adding your income.

What does this mean

when i filed my Maryland state taxes on January 9th 2025 I filed electronically and i think i filed to early and i left out my W-2 on my state of Maryland return and it told me i had 474 refund coming to me, but as soon as i got my W-2 from my job i amended my state tax return and added my W-2 information on January 31st of 2025 and the tax software i am using TurboTax told me that i am due $352 in Maryland state taxes and I've only worked in Maryland for less than a month I moved to Maryland in December and had wages, tips and other compensation of $144 and i had no federal income tax withheld on my w2 so i just really know what to do since i just now amended my state return and I know my amended return will take up to 12 weeks to process in the system and my balance of $352 I need to pay in Maryland State taxes is due by April 15th so how will that work if my amended return it wouldn't be processed within that due timeframe for me to pay.

What does this mean

It seems you were not required to file a Maryland (MD) tax return based on your income for the part year residency

Generally, you are required to file a Maryland income tax return if:

  • You are or were a Maryland resident;
  • You are required to file a federal income tax return; and
  • Your Maryland gross income equals or exceeds the level listed below for your filing status. The filing levels also apply to nonresident taxpayers who are required to file a Maryland return.

Even if you are not required to file a federal return, you may be required to file a Maryland return if your Maryland addition modifications added to your gross income exceed the filing requirement for your filing status. Dependent taxpayers must take into account both their additions to and subtractions from income to determine their gross income.  If 65 or older use the link to review additional information.

  • Single, Married Filing Separately - $13,850
  • Married, Qualifying Widow(er) - $27,700
  • Head of Household - $20,800

You should not amend or file a MD return if you meet the requirements noted above.  Please update if you need further assistance and we will help.

What does this mean

According to your notes you had $144 income during your Maryland (MD) residency.  If this is true, then you are all set, as long as that W-2 is included for your federal return. MD is looking at your residency period as a part year resident, not your annual income. It's not clear how you would qualify for a refund of that size with such a low amount of income for your part year residency period.

If you are referring to the fees for TurboTax, you can check what you are being charged for by following these steps:

  2. On Tax Home, select Start or Continue to enter your return.
  3. Select Tax Tools from the menu, and then Tools.
  4. A Tools Center box will pop up on your screen.
  5. Select My Fees.

If you feel you do not need an add on or wish to downgrade you selection.  You can select to downgrade on the left side column of TurboTax.
