I netfiled returns for my wife and I, and now need to amend them. This is on the desktop product. Unfortunately, for reasons I can't explain, TurboTax has "forgotten" that I already netfiled my wife's return so doesn't give the "Change Return" option there. (It's there on mine.)
How can I convince TurboTax that I want to amend my wife's return, not submit it for the first time?
Make sure that the software is up to date. Once you open the software, select "Change a filed return," then select the return that you need to change. Please refer to the screenshots posted below.
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
The problem is, that when I do that, there is no option to "Change Return" for my wife. I _know_ I've filed it already, using TurboTax. I have the confirmation number and CRA obviously knows about it. Somehow TurboTax has "forgetten" that it was used to file the original return. How can I convince it that I just need to REfile?
(I accidentally posted this question to the US forum originally. There, it was suggested I could go the forms method and tweak the 1040X to indicate that it was for an amendment. Can something similar be done with the Canadian forms?)
Thanks.
Can you make the appropriate changes on your wife's return? If yes, please make them then go to File to see if you can file the return once again or if you get an error message.
That's what I ended up doing. I put my wife's return back to its original state and then refiled. No error, and then TurboTax allowed me to amend (and refile) the return. Felt a bit odd but it worked and CRA was happy.
Really dunno how TurboTax managed to forget about the original filing but it worked out in the end.
Thanks.
