Who should claim the manitoba tax credits? Me or my wife?

Thank you for choosing TurboTax,

If you want to learn about the personal tax credit, as per CRA, you and your spouse need to decide who will claim the personal tax credit for both of you. Only one of you must claim this amount.

If you are claiming your spouse or common-law partner as a dependant on line 58120 of Form MB428, you have to make the personal tax credit claim for both of you.

Please visit the website of Form MB479, Manitoba Credits to get more information related to all tax credit for Manitoba Credits. If you want to learn about specific tex credit implications please contact us again.

We appreciate you choosing TurboTax,

Depending on the tax credit you are inquiring about will determine the answer.

The person who will claim the personal tax credit for both of you must decide who is going to take advantage of the credit, according to CRA.

Note: This credit can only be claimed by one of you.

When you claim your spouse or common-law partner as a dependent on line 58120 of Form MB428

It is your responsibility to claim the personal tax credit for both of you.
