What’s the difference between filing together or separate as spouses?

Everyone in Canada must file their returns individually. There is no joint filing like in the US.

TurboTax allows you to prepare your return together with your spouse, in order to make claiming credits and transferring amounts easier. You can still choose to prepare your returns separately, but then you'll have to do things that TurboTax would normally calculate, like decide who takes the medical expenses, or how much pension to split.
