Can each spouse make a medical claim separate from each other?

The program claims all the medical on one return and there is an excess. How do you go about claiming the excess on the spouses return

Don't split your medical claims unless you have to!
You could lose a tax credit amount equal to 3% of either Net Income or $2208 which ever is more.

If you really must split medical, you need to prepare returns separately, NOT using joint prep.

Don't accept a statement from software that your expense can trigger an audit.
At most, CRA will ask to see receipts, so keep them.
