Turbo Tax (specifically for me, the online version), should be allowing users to specify which person on a tax filing is claiming the T2201 disability benefit transfer. When you originally file for the disability tax credit, CRA automatically assigns the transfer recipient as the person who receives the CCB payments, which by default is the mother. That doesn't work for me (at least this year).
Its frankly ridiculous that the suggested path is to CALL THE CRA and change the recipient. What if the higher earner changes every year? Are we supposed to call the CRA every year? And of course, its higher income after deductions, so you've got to pretty much finish your tax return before you can figure that out.
The only scenario where it matters that the higher earner claims the transfer is where the whole credit would not be used by the lower earner... which your software should be able to detect and warn about. Otherwise, the user should be able to tell you who the CRA thinks should be claiming it.
Please, allow me to specify who is claiming the credit. If you don't, I'll be filing using a competitor this year and probably forever more.
