Do substantial (+$50,000) medical bills alone qualify as "support" to claim medical dependent expenses for a non-university, over 18 child who does not live at home?

He could not work for part of 2015. Our support was limited to his medical bills. CRA says you can claim adult children as medical dependents if they were "dependent on the individual for "support" at some time in the year."

Probably not. There would be a better case if the dependant was living under your roof.
Even so, the line 331 Medical credit is limited to any eligible non-reimbursed expense in excess of 3% of your sons net income or $2208, whichever is lower.

His expense cannot be cumed up with your line 330 family expense.
