Each parent may only claim child care expenses incurred for a period during the year that the eligible child resided with the parent and only to the extent that the expenses were paid by that parent to enable that parent to engage in the activities listed in. In these cases, the CRA will generally consider each parent to reside with a child while the child is in their custody.

You can only claim an amount that you actually paid.
